Undergraduate Society
The Carleton University Geology Society (GeoSoc) is a great student-run organization that is friendly and fun. We run professional development workshops and host guest speakers to highlight the interesting side of earth sciences. We bounce ideas off each other and run some awesome events to bring together those with an interest in Earth Sciences.
Graduate Society
Founded in 2011, the Graduate students in Earth Sciences Society (GRAESSOC) was formed to organise graduate involvement and to promote the excellent research being done at the graduate level in the Department of Earth Sciences at Carleton University.
We serve Carleton Master's and Ph.D. students in Earth Sciences and related fields. We organize events such as the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Center's (OCGC) Fall Camping Trip.
Ottawa-Carleton American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Student Chapter
Founded in 2015, the OCGC-AAPG Student Chapter is open to undergraduate and graduate students at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa in Earth Sciences and related fields. This chapter hosts a seminar series of "Visiting Geoscientists" throughout the academic year. There is also a social component put on for members.
Society of Economic Geologists Student Chapter (OCUSEG)
Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students alike. We organize events throughout the year that aim to advance the science of geology through the scientific investigation of mineral deposits and mineral resources. Past events include conferences, symposia, field trips, short courses, workshops, and lecture series.
This is a great opportunity for any student interested in economic geology. There are various volunteer positions available that not only provide a great learning experience, but that can also give you the opportunity to make industry contacts that are important for your future career.
