Cool Science Saturday

Saturday, February 18, 2023
9-5pm
Canada Science and Technology Museum

Volunteers from Carleton University's Department of Earth Sciences will be at the Canada Science and Technology Museum on Saturday February 18th from 9-5pm as part of the Cool Science Saturday event. Come find out all about earthquakes in Canada, including in our own backyard, where Carleton's Earth scientists are researtching how the ground around Ottawa reacts to shaking and how that can help us build safer buildings. You can play with a model seismograph, check out how different materials react to shaking, and try your hand at designing a shake-proof building.

"Ottawa Quakes!! Explore how earthquakes impact buildings in the city of Ottawa. This interactive demonstration will show how subsurface conditions affect ground motion and cause damage to buildings. Simulate an earthquake and try your hand at designing an earthquake resistant building. Measure your earthquake on a seismometer in real-time!"
