Sara imaging a rock wall with a miniature structured-light sensor attached to a tablet

Congratulations to Sara McPeak who has recently been awarded a national scholarship from the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG) for 2016-17! CSEG scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance, financial need, interest in geophysics and extra-curricular activities. Sara is in the second year of her M.Sc. degree, done under the supervision of Dr. Claire Samson. In her research, Sara uses a miniature structured-light sensor to image geomaterials in 3D and to quantitatively relate surface features to physical properties. This research field is very “high-tech” geophysics and is at the interface between material science and computer vision.
