Geochronology

I develop and apply innovative geochronological approaches to unravel the timing of deformation, metamorphism and mineralization in complex rocks. I utilize U-Pb (zircon, monazite) methods, and in the near future I will be setting up Sm-Nd dating of intracrystalline garnet domains.

The Isotope Geochemistry and Geochronology Research Centre (IGGRC) in the Department of Earth Sciences has research and analytical facilities to support cutting edge research.  We have three class-100 clean laboratories for sample preparation. Our ThermoFinnigan Triton TI thermal ionization mass spectrometer is used to measure precise isotopic ratios of the Ca, Sm-Nd, U-Pb, common Pb, and Rb-Sr systems.
